What thiodiazole copper is
Thiodiazole copper is a copper-containing fungicide. It combines copper with a thiadiazole group. Copper has long been used to control bacterial and fungal diseases on crops. The thiadiazole part can help the copper move inside plant tissue.
The general mode of action is contact and protective. Copper ions disrupt enzyme systems in pathogen cells. This stops spore germination and bacterial growth. It won't cure an infection already inside the plant. Apply it before disease appears or at the first sign. Coverage matters. You'll need good spray coverage on leaves and stems.
Typical crops and targets
- Rice
- Bacterial leaf streak and bacterial blight are common targets. Apply at early disease signs.
- Vegetables
- Chinese cabbage, cabbage, tomato, cucumber, chili, eggplant, potato, and garlic. Targets include black rot, soft rot, bacterial leaf spot, scab, canker, and wilt.
- Melons
- Watermelon and other melons. Bacterial angular leaf spot and fruit blotch are listed targets.
- Fruit trees
- Peach bacterial perforation, also called shot-hole. It's a common bacterial disease in stone fruit.
- Other field crops
- Tobacco, cotton, soybean, and kidney bean. Targets include bacterial blight, spot disease, and leaf burn.
Formulation and tank-mix notes
CHICO offers thiodiazole copper as a suspension concentrate (SC). One product is 20% thiodiazole copper. Another combines 18% thiodiazole copper with 2% kasugamycin. Both are SC formulations.
Before tank mixing, check compatibility. Don't mix with strong alkaline materials. Copper can react with some fertilizers and other pesticides. Do a jar test if you're unsure. Check the label of your registered product. Confirm with your registrant before changing the mix.
