What abamectin is and how it works
Abamectin belongs to the avermectin chemical class. It is a fermentation product of the soil bacterium Streptomyces avermitilis. In crop protection it's used mainly as an insecticide, miticide and nematicide.
It acts on the nervous system of target pests. The compound binds to specific chloride channels, increasing membrane permeability to chloride ions. This disrupts nerve signal transmission. Affected mites and insects stop feeding and become paralyzed. They die within a few days. It has contact and stomach action, with some translaminar movement in leaves.
